The last few days have been rainy. On Wednesday night, dad had to take the turtle team to Laguna Cuatro because the patrol leader was not feeling well. I decided to come along for a glimpse at Laguna Cuatro again despite the fact that it had been a rainy day. Before it started raining again, we saw a Great Potoo (a large nocturnal bird). Then the rain came and it came hard! I discovered my coat was not sealed and wished I had not been so foolish and tagged along. The lightning lit up the sky sometimes like daylight. We saw a couple of Bare-throated Tiger Herons and a Tri-coloured Heron we seem to see every night we go out. On the way back there was a praying mantis (which flew away) and a crab in the boat. When we got back to the station, I was so happy. The first thing I did was take of my shirt and coat, grab my warm towel from the dry box and then crawl inside the dry box to dry off because I was completely drenched.
On Thursday night, we caught a red-eyed tree frog. On Friday, the dock flooded and the water level has not changed since then. Now that the water level is so high, we are allowed to jump off the loft. On Saturday, we went for a hike at the base of the cerro and we had to take a few detours because the trail was either wet or had a fallen tree on it from the thunderstorms. We also got rained on.
