In January 2008, we decided our family needed a change. A long commute, long days at work, and little time for the family prompted a desire for change. It was time to focus on what we believe is most important: our family and the environment. What could we change and how could we change it? After some deliberation and discussion, we planned to make a dramatic change: sell our home, our car, and many of our belongings and move to a remote biological research station in Costa Rica. To some, it may seem dangerous with the venomous snakes, poisonous plants, tarantulas, and scorpions. But to us, it's an amazing way to reconnect with each other and nature; to live simply, away from the pressures and distractions of life in a North American city; and to make a difference by doing something worthwhile, something bigger than ourselves, something for conservation.
