can resource extraction and rainforest conservation be compatible?

The objective of this program is to explore the relationship Guyana has with its natural heritage and resources. I work with the Iworkrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development as well as Surama Eco-lodge to identify and understand the challenges they face, help them build the internal capacity to overcome the challenges, and monitor the resource-based economy. Ultimately, the goal is to help develop and document sustainable models of economic development that protect ecological integrity. We will document how Guyana is balancing the dichotomy presented by the recognition of being a global leader in preservation of natural heritage and a nation with a desire to prosper economically through extraction and export of natural resources.
